Milestones Begin

We took Max to his first pediatrician appointment.  Good news!  He’s healthy and growing.  He’s now 9lb 3 oz, 21 3/4 inches long.

img_2419That was very reassuring because he’s been starting to spit up/throw up more and we were worried there may be some acid reflux going on.

The doc thinks one contributing factor could be the vitamin/iron supplements the hospital perscribed for him at birth.  We’re going to transition to feeding him one serving of formula at night before bed time instead of the supplements to see if that helps.  Hopefully this will have the added benefit of longer sleeping in one stretch at night.

My pediatrician recommended vitamins until my kids were getting 19 oz per day of formula (we are almost up to that amount). Some peds don’t perscribe any vitamins on the theory that you are passing through enough in the BM – but the AAP recommends giving them from birth to your kids if you BF. Anyway, we bought the TriVoSol kind and just added it to their bedtime formula bottles.

    He’s beautiful.

P.S. my kids still don’t sleep through the night – but I get at least until 3 am. 🙂

My ped never recommended vitamins, even though Finn was mostly breastfed for the first several months as a baby. I guess Mommy, Esq is right – every doctor does things a little differently! Anyway, if it turns out that the reflux problems don’t go away, drop me an e-mail – we battled reflux with Finn as a baby, and had a lot of trial and error before we found a good solution. I can let you know what worked for us and maybe save you some of the trouble.
